Dormitories are one of the best places for new students to make new friends. Students with the same interests come together in one location and it offers the chance to socialise with others with different backgrounds. Generally, dorms are furnished with bedrooms, kitchens and private bathrooms. However, the style, size and facilities available may vary from place to place. There are single rooms, and others that can accommodate up to 3 people sharing. Gyms, laundry rooms and study rooms are usually shared with the other students in the dormitory. The contract for a dormitory room is generally signed for a 10 month period (the academic year) only.
